On Saturday, February 8, Pryor Middle School’s 6th/7th Grade Academic Team competed in the Oklahoma Junior Academic Bowl Association (OJABA) regional championship in Sperry, securing a bid for the state tournament in April.

Ten teams from across Northeast Oklahoma faced off in toss-up and lightning round-style questions, testing their knowledge in all subjects and general trivia. Pryor opened the tournament with a 230-210 victory over Owasso Prep Academy, followed by another 230-210 win over Lone Star, advancing them to the semifinals.

In the semifinals, Pryor secured a 260-200 victory over Vinita, thanks in part to the Tiger's impressive knowledge of elements and their symbols. Vinita battled back through the loser's bracket to force a rematch in the championship, but the Tigers once again defeated the Hornets, claiming the regional championship trophy.

The team will compete for the OJABA State Championship on April 5 at Dale High School. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Pryor Middle School has qualified for the 6/7th grade state tournament.

The excitement isn’t over yet—this weekend, the 7th/8th grade PMS Academic Team will take the stage, competing in their regional tournament at Pryor Middle School on Saturday, February 15.

Teams members include Captain Avery Raper, Marria Ruben, Hannah Kennedy, Hope Rehbein, Aiden Epps, Anthony Watson, Remmy Rogers, Lola Vue, and Avery Webster. The team is coached by Heather Braucher and Kaleb Trowbridge.
