A ride on one of Pryor Public Schools’ new activity buses became more than transportation at the end of March. It became the starting point for a districtwide look at student leadership, learning, and school culture in action.
Pryor Board of Education members Fred Sordahl, Jeanette Anderson, Paul Melchior, and Chris Van Natta joined District administrators for the annual tour of school campuses, a tradition that offers board members the chance to experience the district from the students’ point of view.
This year, the journey carried an added layer of pride as the group traveled aboard one of the District’s new activity buses, a recent addition designed to serve students well as they travel to events and activities. As the bus moved from campus to campus, board members stepped into classrooms, visited with teachers, and saw firsthand the leadership mindset that continues to shape Pryor schools.
At each stop, students welcomed the group and took the lead, guiding tours and sharing what makes their school special. Their voices helped paint a picture of each campus, offering insight into daily learning, school traditions, and the culture that supports student growth.

Touring the ongoing construction at the high school was also part of the day. Board members walked through the new athletic wing, which brings the high school campus under one roof from the AVRA to the Burdick.
Board members did more than observe. They were able to experience students confidently communicating, while leading visitors through their buildings and reflecting on their own school experiences. Those moments offered a powerful reminder that leadership at Pryor Public Schools is not just something students hear about, but something they practice.
From the classrooms to the hallways, the day highlighted the value of student voice and the importance of staying connected to the work happening across the district. Traveling together on one of the new activity buses also served as a visible reminder of the district’s continued investment in providing quality experiences for students both inside and outside the classroom.
By the end of the tour, the message was clear: across Pryor Public Schools, students are not only learning; students are leading.
