Mrs. Wendy Kuhn has been named a recipient of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA) Exemplary Teacher Award! This prestigious recognition celebrates educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication, leadership, and excellence in music education, and Mrs. Kuhn exemplifies all of that and more.
Mrs. Kuhn will officially receive the award on Thursday, January 22, 2026, during the OkMEA Winter Conference. The ceremony will be held at the Arvest Convention Center in downtown Tulsa, Grand Ballroom C, alongside music educators from across the state.
Now in her 28th year of teaching, Mrs. Kuhn has spent the last 15 years at Pryor Public Schools, where she serves as Director of Percussion Studies, teaching all percussion students in grades 6–12. Under her leadership, the Pride of Pryor drumline, front ensemble, and concert percussion ensembles have earned numerous awards and superior ratings. The Pryor High School Percussion Ensemble also performed as the featured foyer concert at the OkMEA Conference in 2018 and has appeared multiple times at the Oklahoma Days of Percussion.
In addition to her work at the high school level, Mrs. Kuhn conducts the Pryor Middle School 7th Grade Band for concerts and contests, which has also received several superior ratings in recent years—further reflecting her impact across grade levels.
A proud Pryor High School graduate, Mrs. Kuhn studied under the direction of Roy Jackson and privately with Kale White. She earned her degree in music education from the University of Arkansas, where she was actively involved in the percussion studio under the guidance of Bruce Roberts and Anthony M. Falcone.
Outside the classroom, Mrs. Kuhn gives back to her community by volunteering on Sundays at Wild Heart Ranch, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation facility. She and her husband, Tom, have been married for 25 years and live out on the lake with their two dogs, Pebbles and Petey.
Here’s to a world made better by percussion performers—and to the many more inspired by Mrs. Kuhn’s passion, leadership, and dedication. Thank you, Mrs. Kuhn, and congratulations on this well-deserved honor!
